John H. Beeler, retired Army captain and professor of history at UNCG, began his study of English medieval warfare when he was a graduate student at Cornell University. His Cornell doctoral dissertation was a study of the role of the castle in the military history of England, and this study was expanded in his book, Warfare in England, 1066-1189.
